If you're set on re-routing the path, I would put it on the shadier site and leave the sunniest area for plants. And make the beds as wide as you can. Any less than a metre looks skinny and limits what you can plant, even in a small garden. For myself I'd probably keep the patio and path as they are, and fill the rest with planting with maybe a stepping-stone path curving through the wider side, and not bother with lawn if grass doesn't do well there.
Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained

Ah I've just looked at the picture again, the border side will be in full sun for the vast majority of the day. The picture was taken early morning.
Originally we also had a boarder along the fence as well but was concerned for the amount of shade, might be something we might consider again.
To me it looks like a space full of promise. If it were mine I'd maximise the planting space and get rid of the path and just create a snaking gravel one amongst lush foliage. With that high wall and fence it would look spectacular planted with fatsias, hostas and hardy canna and ginger for a look of the tropics. It may seem like a cliché but that kind of space screams lush foliage to me with seasonal colour added. Another option would be to move the patio into a kidney shaped one in the middle and be surrounded by all the plants. Small spaces can be very exciting if planted boldly.

They were from Pughs garden centre about two years ago but this is their first summer out because of moving
