Evergreen hedge turning brown.

I pruned the hedge at the beginning of the year and it started to turn brown, I hoped it would recover as it has in the past. But it has gradually got worse. I am hoping that someone can suggest some way to recover it as I really hope it is not terminal. It is 4.5 meters long by 2.5 meters tall. Thanking you in anticipation.

Welcome to the forum @tompiercy123 😊

Im sorry to say that most conifers do not regrow from brown wood, so if that is a Cupressus (and I think it is), then on this occasion it’s been cut back just a bit too far and it wont improve.

I would have that hedge out this autumn, improve the soil by digging in some well rotted manure or compost and a bit of Fish, Blood & Bone and replace it with a type of hedge that doesn’t mind being clipped very narrow ... beech perhaps?

Sorry, but every dead or dying plant is a new planting opportunity and a chance to do it better 😊

Sorry Tom, but l agree with Dove. It's been cut too far back in my opinion. The general thinking is that thuja plicata will regrow if cut back hard but l can tell you from personal experience that it takes ages to do so.
That looks like cupressus to me as well. I think your best bet is to take that whole section out, sorry.
