Mushrooms

I have these in my garden around my tomato and lettuce plants. Are they safe? Are they poisonous? What are they?

Little fungi ... they’re breaking down the organic matter in the soil into a form that the roots of your veg can access them ... very useful ... our gardens wouldn’t function without fungi ... don’t eat them but they’ll not harm your veg which are fine to eat. Just let the fungi decompose and disappear back into the soil.

They might be Fairies' Bonnets - Coprinus Disseminatus. Lives on dead wood and harmless.
