Found bat

FireFire Posts: 19,096
A neighbour in our garden group found a bat just now outside her back door. We have contacted the National Bat Helpline. Any thought on type, age, possible reasons for its grounding? We've taken the appropriate steps. Thanks.

Is she sure it's alive? It's not uncommon to find them dead and still hung up like that.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

She is alive, looking bemused. A National Bat Helpline volunteer is coming over to collect. A furry adult. ;)

Is it possible she has young in the hole beneath her and something has happened to prevent her from re-entering. I know most Bats breed communally but not all do?

    Cool! Is it a pipstrelle?

Bat Woman came and took said furry bat. She says Betty is an elderly male pipistrelle.

Apparently the Bat Phone has been going non-stop since 'lock down' as more people are at home and being observant in nature. Good for bats but hard for the organisation.

No. It was tired and confused, not agitated. It was an older bat and they only live to five or so years, so it may have just come to the end its arc.
