Our young Rowan tree snapped in the wind 😢

Hi there
Our young Rowan tree was doing so well when strong winds snapped it halfway down. My other half read glueing it could help save it. We kept it in the garage to keep it from winds and it seemed to be doing well. However whenever we put it back out in the garden (a lovely sunny day) the top/new leaves droop? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. We received one of The Woodland Trust trees from the plant a tree campaign and shares the name after our son, so we’re really keen to save it

  • Hello. I have a rowan tree.  When it was small the mother-in-law decided to tidy the garden and chopped the top off!  I wasn't too pleased but over time the tree replaced what would have been the trunk with lots of smaller ones. Unfortunately, it seems to have a disease now but I've had it for over 20 years, bearing lovely flowers and berries, which the blackbirds love to eat. I have added a photo. Just plant your tree and see what happens, you might be surprised!

It is still struggling to sustain the top it seems. If you put it outside, put it in a very sheltered spot, no direct sunlight, very little wind. It sounds as if the gluing may still be on course to work. How long ago did it happen? This may take a few months to fully heal.

If the top is doing OK when it's protected but droops in the sun it suggests that there is still life in the top section, and the nutrient is getting up there.  Just keep it sheltered for a while longer and see how it develops.  Worst case, it will throw up more stems from below the break.
