Golden Currant Bare Root (Ribes Aureum)

We bought a Golden Currant around 3 yrs ago when it was approx 12 inches tall. Last summer it grew to over 6 feet tall and had berries although not a lot. I trimmed it back in late autumn to approx 4 feet tall and took off some dead wood.  It is now over 6 feet tall again and has some berries on it. Problem is that a lot of the branches bear the front are turning almost white and flopping over. Some of them fall of the tree when they are touched. Berries are very few when I think there should be a lot. Do any of our gardeners have any suggestions as to what I may have done wrong?  Many thanks.
