New Potting Shed

in The potting shed
I’m quite excited as I am replacing a raised bed with a potting shed - my very first!  The slabs are laid and I’m now waiting for the shed to be put up. It is sort of bespoke as needed to fit into a space. Do others have electricity installed or battery lights or am I being over ambitious ?

    Surely only you can answer that. Can you get an electric supply to it easily and safely?
    Do you intend to run an electric propagator or work in the dark evenings?

    We have mains electricity to the potting shed, very handy, has a strip light for when it is gloomy. An automatic security light, connected to the the mains in the shed comes on if I need to pop out in the dark. Also have winter frost protection and the multiple plugs let me plug in electric garden tools, charge things etc.. Have had heated propagators and daylight tubes in there, connected up wildlife cams etc. So it is a bonus if you have it, makes mine a much more useful and functional space.

    I would say lighting is essential given the long, dark, winter days and the need for heated propagators for some seeds and cuttings.   

    If you prefer, you can get a solar powered automatic light for the outside - we have one by what has become our main house entrance thru the annex as we needed a light but didn't want to start drilling thru 2' thick stone walls.  No more tripping over the steps!

    thank you thank you for the replies. As mentioned, this is new to me and would like electricity for things mentioned but just didn’t know if I was going overboard so appreciate the input.

    It's your garden, your shed and your budget.  if you want knobs, whistles and lights all over then that's what you should do.

    I was looking for a light in the backyard.
    We just moved in and didn't have any light in the backyard and it gets pitch dark at night.
    When I let my dog out, I can't even find him.

    Train him to come when you call him. 🙄 



    Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
