Thanks Mike! Appreciate the advice.....which I shall follow!,
  • Hi Folks – I planted this and 3 other roses last year.  Due to lockdown I wasn’t able to get to them for a few months and now they all look the same, lots of roses and buds and almost every leaf with blackspot!!  I’ve been reading through the advice which seems to be to remove and destroy any leaves with blackspot. Could I just confirm that this would be the case here, because on my plants that will be ALL the leaves! I'm hoping that next year I will be able to nip off leaves with blackspot as they appear.

Personally, I would let the rose defoliate naturally at this point of the season. This way, the leaves can still produce some energy/sugars for the rose. If you defoliate, it probably won't have time to regrow the leaves and still use them before losing them again in autumn. But it's up to you. Some people remove the leaves, some don't.
  • I ended up taking ALL the leaves off and it’s regrown lots...& has at least one flower!!
  • ok - maybe I'll just leave 2 and take the leaves off 2 - see what works!! I suppose I just really want to hear that there is a chance for them next year and I don't have to just dig them up ;)

Yes, they will be perfectly fine next year no matter what you do. And probably will get blackspot again around this time next year no matter what you do.
