Help with new raised bed

Hi I am new to growing veg had some success with a couple of makeshift containers due to restriction of materials . We have now built a veg bed with good quality compost we have to let it settle for 2 weeks and I am desperate to get going , any ideas pleas ,. I live in Rock Ferry , Wirral .I am not sure what to do over winter I don’t want to waste the good compost and I don’t want it to fill with weeds . I would value any suggestions .Is it too late to grow from seed ?

As advised on here I've just kale, Swiss chard, perpetual spinach, Pak choi. Am going to try some winter broad beans in autumn. Think you could just get away with carrots. Winter salad I something I did last year rocket grown all year round

With carrots there are later varieties that there is time to start. Turnips I've started sowing, can keep going well into August for winter crops.

Still just about time to get purple sprouting broccoli going, though the plants won't reach the size of those started in June.

Winter lettuce, though you will most likely need frost protection
  • Thank you both for your help I will try your suggestions .
