Acer watering??

Hey guys I’m new to this forum and gardening in general but must say I’m really hooked and want the best from the plants I have acquired. I have a couple of Acers in pots one around 5ft tall and another small one, today I’ve repotted both in a ericaceous soil with added grit. My question is how often are people watering and also how often do you fertilise, I’ve purchased some liquid seaweed which I hear is good. I appreciate weather is a factor etc. Thanks in advance

    I give mine blood, fish and bone in the spring and some liq seaweed in the summer.

    Thanks for the advice will get some blood fish bone for next year and give it a try 👍

    I give mine a good drenching once or twice a week (the pot is in part shade), and the very occasional slug of weak diluted tomato food if I happen to be passing with the watering can. Tomato food isn't the ideal fertiliser for Acers, it's more for flowers and fruits, but it's what I have lying around and use around the garden. (My philosophy is it's usually better to underfertilise than overfertilise, unless you are growing prize cabbages. You just need to make sure the plants have the minerals they need, but too much can cause problems, a bit like taking an overdose of multivitamins). I will refresh the top layer of compost every year or two although I haven't done it yet.

    Thanks for the advice, I will definitely top dress pots again next year, it’s just so hard to judge if they need a water or not. Maybe start giving em a good soak weekly and see how they fair 👍
