Beginners error, tomatoes fed before first truss

Hi 👋
Newbie here, and just realised an error I made in trying to grow my own tomatoes. They were looking a bit sad (lanky, limp and yellowing) after planting out (they were maybe 8-10" high at the time) so I fed them... looks like this was an error! They're now strong looking good and healthy, almost 2 ft high and not fed in over a month, but no sign of truss having set.
Are they still able to fruit or have i ruined their chance? Should I pull them up now and try again with shop bought plants?
Thanks wise folk on the web!

Worth persisting, you have nothing to lose.

    They'll be fine  :)
Once they have some flowers, and assuming they get pollinated, you'll get fruit following.
Just water them, as and when needed, and ensure they have supports before they get too big  :)

I won't start a proper feeding regime until the first truss sets. I have though very often given tomatoes a feed when transplanting or if they look like they used up all the nutrients in pots, which sounds like what happened with yours. They always produce tomatoes.
  • Thank you all! I shall keep the faith that the fruiting trusses will appear!
