Cherry laurel oozing gum like substance

Hi All,

I have about 15 cherry laurels and I noticed that some of them have been ozzing a gum like substance. See pictures below. Can you please advise what can be done? Also the trees suffer from powdery mildew - really bad one - and for that I have just sprayed been oil. Any other recommendations also welcome.

    How are they being grown? They look very bare.
    I suspect they must be very dry to be suffering from powdery mildew. They seem very near that wall which will make it a drier spot too. 
    It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....



    I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • I just trimmed them a few days back that is why they look bare. Powdery mildew has been since last year. I water these once every week - decent amount of it. They are about a foot from the wall and the boundary on the inside. Here is a broader picture
