shrub ID please

Hi
I would be very grateful if someone could identify this shrub. 
It's a smallish deciduous shrub with upright habit - I haven't noticed any flowers or berries. The leaves are soft/ slightly furry - approx 6cm.

    looks like Kolkwitzia , but unless it's a young plant, yours is a bit small
