What fruit is this?

Can anyone identify these fruit from my rather poor photographs? I've had my allotment for 3 years, and this is the first time I've noticed fruit on this tree. In terms of size, they are bigger than cherries, but smaller than Victoria plums.

Greengages?!?! You lucky thing if they are ... greengage jam is the best jam there is and greengage crumble is the food of the gods. 🤤

Me too - I was lucky enough to get sent one by accident instead of the ordered plum.  Since tasting the fruit, I have bought 3 more gage trees!
