Turtle Dove

We had this bird visiting under our feeders a couple of days ago.  I don't want to start another debate on whether the poor bird should be shot.  I would like to know if they are rare in your area as they are here.

Lovely, not seen one in years and years. Wood pigeons, collared doves are common, I think it will take serious conservation efforts before we were to see a turtle dove again locally. Numbers have been in steady decline here in East Anglia.
  • Most of our feral pigeons and collared doves are seen in pairs, this solitary turtle dove was probably way off track.  I wonder what happened to it after being in our garden. Sorry to hear of the decline in East Anglia.
  • I had a pair visiting my garden a couple of years ago but haven't seen any since.

Very rare and very beautiful. I have not seen one since I was down near @Dovefromabove a few years ago.
