Does my garden tap need replacing?

My garden tap has become very stiff and difficult to turn, is it easy to fix or do i need to replace it?

My first thought would be to try a squirt of WD40 to see if that would loosen it. After that, l'd need to consult an expert (my OH).
I should imagine it's a common occurrence and more advice will arrive shortly  :)

My thoughts entirely. It's surprising what a squirt of WD40 can achieve. Hope it works.  :)

@AnniD, @Fran IOM sorry, I should have said, I have already tried WD40 and it hasn't helped at all. It is very difficult to get the tap to turn at present.

Have a look on youtube, loads of videos on there on how to maintain outside taps.

My Mum had a tap like that, after much fussing and cursing she finally got the plumber in and has a nice new workable tap now.
Sometimes it is better to just get the job done properly if you cannot do it yourself!

I wouldn't bother mucking about with it.  Get a new one fitted.  It won't cost a fortune - or at least it shouldn't cost a fortune.

Is it the sort that just screws onto the wall fitment?  If you can get the old one off (the hardest part of the operation) a new one is 6.99 from screwfix

Try PlusGas, WD40 is not an effective penetrating fluid, the hint is in the name, it stands for Water Displacement, it is used in the motor trade to drive water out of electrical connectors.

PlusGas is an actual penetrating fluid and widely avialable. Apply and use a tool to gently turn the tap back and forth until it loosens.
