Grass mulch from new mower

Our brand new mower has a mulching capability which my husband found out about when he put the mower together. I personally don't want bits of grass sticking to my shoes or to distribute weed seeds all over. Is there any benefit I'm missing or can anyone give me a convincing reason not to use it?

Thanks in advance.

I have a mulching attachment (it's basically a plug) and it's brilliant. I don't use it in late autumn through to early spring to avoid thatch growing, but from mid-April to end of September it makes a huge difference to the health of the lawn. This is because the clippings are shredded into tiny pieces which are then forced down between the grass blades and onto the soil; a free fertiliser.

If your lawn is relatively thatch-free, use the mulcher. If not, it's probably better not to use it til after you've scarified in the autumn.

As long as you mow regularly, you won't get any bits of grass sticking to your shoes. You'll only find this a problem if you leave it too long or mow when the grass is wet.

Another huge benefit is not having to stop to empty the clippings every few minutes!

Go for it, you'll notice the difference in lawn health. There's a reason why golf courses do it!

The mulching plug will work well if you cut the grass very regularly, possibly twice a week in the summer months.  The clippings will be so short that they will fall back into the grass and not be picked up on shoes.

I'm not a particularly regular mower of my lawn I'm afraid - every 10 days or 2 weeks. And the mulching plug works just fine!

It's just when we get a lot of rain and warm weather that it grows voraciously... I don't always get opportunity to cut when the conditions permit so it sometimes is left longer than I'd like.

That said, I cut last week using the mulching plug, had to do it on 2nd highest cutting height first and then again a couple of notches down. Grass was slightly damp as we'd just had a shower but even then, after 24 hours the clippings had disintegrated and nothing was left on feet/shoes.

The lawn is now thick and green (despite being a crunchy, dry mat a month or so ago!)
