Advice on Sorbus 'Chinese Lace' please!

madpenguinmadpenguin Posts: 2,543
I planted this Sorbus 'Chinese Lace 9 years ago.It took its time getting going, losing 2 'leaders'etc. so I decided to just let it grow and see what happened.
It now has 2 large 'leaders' and the 2 together seem to be too much for the spindly trunk.
Should I cut off the leader that sticks out to one side and keep the one that is more in line with the trunk?
Also should I then perhaps shorten the main leader as the whole tree seems a bit top heavy and sways alarmingly in high winds!
Just planted March 2011

After 3 years-July 2014

I can't see anything there that looks like it needs chopping off. It could be the angle but so far, the tree looks like it's growing well. Maybe take a photo of the tree front on to include sides. You could shorten the branch that grows outwards.

I may do that (shorten the branch). The tree has 2 very strong 'leaders' and I am half afraid that they will bring the tree down in high winds as they are both on one side.
Both leaders are almost as thick as the main trunk!
