I use long handled shears (Tesco ones that were really cheap but really good - best buy ever a couple of years ago) and with practice I have almost mastered being able to cut along the edge, then use them like pincers to pull the cut bits onto the lawn. I mow AFTER cutting to "hoover" up the bits. What i didn't manage to catch from the hollow is usually sucked up by the mower. I also overhang in places with geraniums or thyme and such like. Hedges and edges make the garden look neat don't they say?
Yes, however amazing the rest of the garden looks hedges, driveways / paths and hedges can really let it down. Thanks for all your help. I already have long handled shears so will try that tip to cut the edges first and try to pull the cuttings back on to the lawn (great thinking). I am going to invest in the other handle shears too, and get down on my knees! I love all the help that's available on here. Thanks to all of you.
