  Nope, you can't prune it. Looks like a variety of agave or a yucca. A classic case of wrong plant in the wrong place.

  Thanks all, I thought that might be the case. I really like the plant, its beautiful but we really do not have space for it, I guess i will try to sell it, as reading up they are happy to move. hopefully someone else has a welcoming space for it, as its too big for us. when we moved in it was only tiny around 8 years ago. does not surprise me at all lol.

  Suggest you advertise it...Buyer to collect...and dig up!

  Saw one of these with wine corks on the outward facing spikes. They must have got through an awful lot of vino.
