Rhododendron flower

The plant was covered with flower buds which did not fully open this year.  The buds were tinged with brown stripes.  The plant remains healthy other than this problem which has never happened before

The most common reason for buds not forming or opening properly is lack of water the previous summer, which is when the buds form.
Dry conditions again in spring doesn't help either.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • Thank you, I will ensure it gets plenty of water this year and in future years. Relieved it wasn't anything more serious.  Will also try to remove the dead buds but there are loads of them.

If you can remove the dead buds it will help.  :)

Thank you. It's from the summit of a hill I did about a year ago - next to Loch Quoich in the north west Highlands -Sgurr 'a Mhaoraich. It's a superb viewpoint in all directions.

    Hope the rhodo improves.  :)
