Compost on top of laurel hedge?

in Plants
Hello,
I was hoping someone would be able to help...I have a laurel hedge that is doing okay (some plants growing and some with yellow leaves).
I was going to put 6 month old compost on top to give the plants a little boost...is now the best time of year to do it? Do I need to turn over the soil or can I put it straight on top?
Any advice would be appreciated! Thank you 😊

If your ground is baked hard [I believe some areas are still very dry] it would be best to water thoroughly, or wait until there's a bit of moisture there. You can then remove any weeds or dead foliage first, and it's easier if the ground is a bit damp. The compost will also work in better, and help retain some moisture.
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Thank you 😊
