Purple Sprouting Broccoli

I planted bought plugs in March expecting to crop them in February next year. They are sending up sprouts already. Will they come again or have I simply bought the wrong variety?
Thanks

I gather there are many types of Purple Sprouting which make it possible to eat it more or less all year round.  I bought, and planted, some plugs on 8 April which cropped very heavily.  We ate the last of them about two weeks ago and the replacements are already in.

There's summer purple sprouting broccoli which you plant and harvest in the same year (that summer) and then the "normal" purple sprouting broccoli which you plant one year and harvest the following year.

Hmm but sadly it is a bit late now to plant some more for January!

I've just sown mine for next year in the past couple of weeks.

You are OK sowing in July for next year, plants may be a little smaller than if you got them going in June, but not too late.

Thanks Gemma - I've planted the seeds already!:)
  • Just looked in on this cos mine have begun to sprout too. I think as long as we crop what comes and don't let them flower, they'll go dormant over winter and sprout again in January? I'm not giving up on mine anyway cos they're nice strong plants. Last year's were poor and I pulled them out.
