    Haha.

Have-a-heart live trap (XL size) in a full-day 100% shade location with some canned tuna as bate.  Check it hourly during the day and very first thing every morning, remove it if you will be away for longer than an hour.
If you catch a cat, put the entire trap and all in a box and take it to your local cat rescue shelter.  If it happens to look like Fluffy from next door, it is most likely a coincident because the cat you trapped is a feral.  Why else would it be in your yard?  A cared for cat is protected and kept safe, and not allowed to roam around beyond it’s owners property where it might be injured or killed.

Live traps are great, especially if you are ( or know ) a long distance lorry driver....

Although I do find they take the fun out of things...  a stationary target is so easy to hit  ;)

That's not very nice. Tuna shouldn't be wasted on cats.

If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

Just use the nasty tuna-in-oil that your OH occasionally picks up at the shop because they didn’t look at or read the label before putting it into the cart.. taking it out of the cart to have it rung up.. then again into the bag.. and into the cupboard.. etc.  (God bless them).

I like the Mad Scottish Wifey technique.

Open your window and yell very loudly 'Get away fae ma burds!'.

Other options include 'move it ya clarty git' and 'manky bastard'.
This has varying success based on gender and geographical location, of course. And done early in the morning may accidentally scare your neighbour who was out to water his plants.

In all seriousness, I don't know if those sonar things work. Enough of my neighbours have them that I'm thinking they must, they all have the same one.

The only thing I know that actually works is letting your own cat out to scare them off. But then you're adding to the problem, and that isn't a solution.
