Please help me save my azalea

Hi there,

I bought a beautiful azalea a month ago but it isn’t looking so good now. Please can you offer advice on how to help it. I’m completely new to gardening so please be detailed in steps.
Thank you very much.

Is the soil suitable for azaleas? Neutral to acidic for the vast majority.
Judging by your hydrangea - I think you may have a problem.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • Oh no. Thank you. Any tips? Move to planter?

I think you'll have to do that if yours oil is alkaline.
It will need a big pot/planter though. Make sure you have a good soil mix for it too - not just compost. Good drainage too, a shady spot, and keep it well watered, especially through summer.  :)

You will either need ericaceous compost or else use  a sequestrated iron feed. This is often sold as a hydranga colourant and if you get bored with your pink one you can use some to water it too and it will turn blue. Like magic :)

Yes, they definately want a neutral or preferably acidic soil. I would lift it, wash the soil off the roots (with rainwater if poss) and repot into ericaceous soil, put it into the shade and keep it damp with rainwater only. It will come back. Mine finished flowering and is doing fine by keeping things shady and acidic. Good luck.  :)
