Acer trunk

These have appeared on the trunk of my acer (see photo).

I have rubbed them off.  Is it something to worry about? Should I be doing something else?

Scale insects. Just scrub them off. They can be persistent though  :)

I had them on one of my acers a few years ago and there were lots of them.
I scrubbed them off with a hard brush but couldn't reach higher (the tree is about 12ft high).
In the middle of winter I gave the tree a thorough spray with Vitax Winter Tree Wash and no sign of them since I'm pleased to say.
