Pruning fruit bushes

i know you should cut down to the ground the old wood canes but I can’t tell which are old because some of these canes are old wood on the lower half and new wood at the top so how do I prune these?

It's not really correct to say that the old wood needs pruning to the ground as a generalism when pruning currants. The first thing you need to do is identify exactly what sort of currant bush that is, as pruning varies;  Red/whitecurrants fruit on old wood but blackcurrants fruit on younger wood.
Once you have identified it, see here and click on the relevant one:

A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
