Do I need wires

Earlier on I planted two jasmine in individual large pots about about 20 inches from a traditional red brick wall. The Jasmin has just reached the wall. I’m wondering do I need wires to give them support or will the rough red brick be sufficient for it to cling onto

If I do require a support would the occasional strong metal ties be sufficient to hold the plants as the climb.

Thanks for your advice

Jasmine twines but doesn't self cling.

Your best option is to go to the DIY store and buy some vine eyes - screw with a loop instead of a head - and some galvanised wire and some strong pliers.  You then fix the vine eyes to the walls in horizontal rows about 10 to 12 inches apart (25 to 30cms) You'll need to space them every metre or so along the horizontal line.

Then you thread the wire through and attach at each end making sure it is taut.  You can use pliers if you're strong but thensioners will be better and can help you adjust it later.   As the jasmine gorws you then train the stems along the wires to cover the wall.
