FlyDragon Yup it’s a gardening forum and my thread is about vile cat crap in our garden that we’ve spent a lot of money on for nature and wildlife etc.. not for other people’s FERAL moggies to crap all over.. Simple to understand really .. Although it’s difficult for you to understand for some reason.. Hmmmm !!!!
It seems you’ll never change the mindset of a cat lover, I’ve already expressed that I too like cats but I respect other people and their property more, who knows what grief that person is going through, they don’t need the added stress of cleaning up after your pets!
Only hate I ever see on these threads is from cat lovers who deny the very real and totally unacceptable impacts of their pets on others, directed at those trying to solve the issue.
Not to mention the environment.
Ecosystems.
Other pets.
Then of course the not insubstantial issue of free roaming cats own welfare.
This thread has gone the usual way.
From discussing the very real experiences many of us have had due to irresponsible pet ownership and the possible solutions, to people jumping in and spreading hate for those in often difficult, frustrating, hazardous and totally unacceptable situations because of other people's irresponsible pet ownership.
The only comfort I get from it all, is the longer the denial from cat owners continues, the more likely we are to see legislation in the UK.
All be it years behind the rest of the environmentally informed developed world.
People, people - We have all expressed our opinions clearly here. Yes, it's a very emotive subject. These threads always descend into mud slinging anger with other members. No need to turn things to personal attacks. A mix of deep love, anger, frustration is not easy to field. A load of new forum peeps always end up leaving in shock that debates spiral so fast into nastiness. It shows the forum's worst side. We hear you. Let it be.

Would it be very cynical to consider that this is exactly the intention of those who wish the issue was not being discussed?
I rather like this forum because of its moderation. Never seen a thread pulled on the grounds it was too honest, truthful and informed, or because it was dealing with a very real issue experienced by gardeners throughout the UK.
I have a suspicion here that totally unfounded insinuations towards other posters that have been made, have been taken as a truthful and accurate reflection of the content posted, perhaps by more casual readers.
Not for one second that I would suggest that was intentional **cough**
"Only hate I ever see on these threads is from cat lovers who deny the very real and totally unacceptable impacts of their pets on others, directed at those trying to solve the issue."
May I refer her back to this previous post ( maybe she's just a 'casual' reader, eh? ) :
I hate, loathe and despise them with every fibre of my being, and , to be honest, most of their owners who are simply so selfish they just don't care about the actions of their psychopathic pets.
Reported. And I don't even have a cat.
Is telling the truth while in direct response to another forum posters comment and having a dislike for a particular species against the forum rules?
‘ Only hate I ever see on these threads is from cat lovers.....’ said @GemmaJF.
Perhaps @GemmaJF didn’t see this from @Hostafan1 which belies that statement from her. ‘I hate, loathe and despise them with every fibre of my being, and , to be honest, most of their owners...’ @SlipperyElm has already pointed out this contradiction but was asked if telling the truth was against rules - which was not the point he/she was making at all.
This whole thread has disintegrated into repetitive vicious statements and I, too, have reported it. No, I don’t have a cat either.
In my experience these threads only deteriorate at the point where the people trying to solve an issue, that impacts their garden and gardening activities, are derided. No surprise at all it involved the usual suspects.
Strange on a gardening forum.
Perhaps we should responds to all new posts with the attitude of:
"Problem, what problem. That is a problem best not discussed."
There are at least four currently running threads on cat fouling. The issue obviously does not simply go away by not discussing it.
People who do not like the content and advice and opinion of those who have experienced these issues first hand and in some cases found some form of solution, well there are cat appreciate threads that nobody goes and disrupts.
Strange how it does not work the other way on here. No it isn't, it is exactly what I have come to expect on this topic on any platform.

Nice that you quoted me out of context with some careful editing there. I made an observation, not an expression of hate.
This particular issue will not be resolved on a Gardening Forum like it or not.
It might be though, eventually. Mature conversations on social media are going to play a big part in increasing awareness of the problems and might help some owners become more responsible. This approach has led to more bells on collars for example which is a start. Even if the bells are fairly ineffective at least it shows the owners have admitted their pets are causing problems which is a step along the road. The converstation has to be kept civil and stick to the facts though or like we've just seen people will hit the ignore button and nothing will be achieved.
I will admit I think Songbird Survival are a crap charity but I think they've got it right with how they're approaching this. Work with cat owners and stick to research-based solutions. https://www.songbird-survival.org.uk/cat-research This is what the RSPB should have doing for years already.
Work like that and turning the tide of public opinion on social media is what will sort this problem out.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.
@GemmaJF you stated ‘ Only hate I ever see on these threads is from cat lovers.....’ which, as you correctly say, is an observation. At no point in my post did I say you were expressing hate. Apologies if my post was not clear.
