Lavender hedge

WoostieWoostie Posts: 53
I'm planning to plant a row of lavenders to form a sort of hedge running down the side of the path leading to my front door. I'd prefer them to be roughly 80cm-1m in height but I'm having trouble getting accurate sizes online as every website seems to say something different about the same varieties. I don't mind which colour etc, it's more the height I am particular about.

Can anyone recommend a particular variety please? Thank you.

Here are the results of RHS Trials in 2003 which should be pretty reliable and give plenty of suggestions.

The area will need to be sunny and well drained for them to do well

You may find this website helpful. Excellent info and great choice of lavenders, I’ve bought from them several times.

@Pete.8, @Bright star, thank you both for these links. Lots of information for me to wade through.

Hi Woosties, I did something similar in our front garden. My lavender hedge is made up of one of the most common ones - Hidcote. It is probably a bit shorter than you are looking for, about 60 cm. I’m keeping it to this height as I need to step over it to tend to the area behind. I also have heavy clay soil, which isn’t great for lavender and which might inhibit growth a bit. I did quite a bit of prep beforehand to improve drainage.

@Watsonia, thank you. Your lavender hedge is gorgeous, just the sort of thing I'm planning. My soil is not clay, thankfully, and is fairly good for drainage. Thank you for sharing :)
