pyracantha pruning

I've never understood when to do this; as I understand things: winter  cuts off flower bearing  shoots , spring cuts of flowers, autumn cuts off berries and then back to winter.

It has never flowered very well, so i'm not sure if it is my summer cut of shoot growth beyond developing berries. If I don't do some cutting it gets too big
could I ask what others do

With Pyracantha, you just have to accept that there isn't a perfect time. You'll lose 'something' no matter what time you do it. I just take off wayward shoots, usually in late spring/early summer, because there's plenty there in terms of flowers/potential fruits.
If it really needs taken in hand, you just have to do it when it suits, and accept that you may have to wait a little while for it to come back. Depending on the shape of it, you can also take individual branches/stems right back, doing a few each year [again depending on the size of the shrub, and the shape you require etc ] and then keep on top of it if needed.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
