@edhelka interestingly I've had a couple of whites turn up this year, and I've never sowed any. I always assumed the pink/purple ones were the natural ones, but perhaps not...

It's fun to do from seed to get posh cultivars  :) Main problem I have here with autumn plantings is space and weeds. Hence why I pot grow them for one season, plant out the next spring in the flowering position. The native foxgloves in the front garden, I just leave them to self seed and do their thing.
So I'm obviously a bit new to all this, what do you mean by posh cultivars? Am I going to get random foxgloves from the seeds that get sown? Or do you mean that you buy seeds of posh cultivars?

I know you get some plants where the seeds don't give you the same kind of flower, I think Pansies are one of those, are foxgloves the same?
I’ve no idea what I’m doing.

It's a case of wait and see! Don't be discouraged you might grow a brand new posh cultivar!

I'm just really into foxgloves and get excited by new stuff that comes out, so yes I buy the seeds and make a big fuss about them. Don't worry about it, you will definitely grow lovely foxgloves. Will they be true to the parent plant? Maybe, maybe not.

Generally people think of the purple ones as the natural native plant, in fact though pale pink and white are not uncommon in the wild.

I'm growing from bought seed again this year, we did the same last year and planted 1 side of the garden with self seeded plants the other with the bought seed. Well the bought seed produced flower spikes up to 9ft tall with masses of flowers that stood up really well in the rain, the self sown then transplanted just didn't match the performance. Clearly this could all be down to variety differences but considering how easy they are to grow I'm going from new from now on. They also looked very good in our meadow which was our best experiment of the year, more will be going in there for next year

Yes they compete with my cardoons for the tallest plants in the garden.

This years foxgloves that always self seed are very tall this year,  just about 7 foot, a foot or so taller than usual. I always get pink, purple and white and never know what will come next time.😁

Start them in pots and foliar feed them with miracle grow, they will become enormous  :)
