Can I shorten raspberry laterals in spring to prevent breaking in summer

I'm getting some lovely raspberries from my Cascade Delight canes this summer but have lost some of the crop because longer laterals have broken off (at the cane) as the fruit grows heavier.
I know longish laterals is the habit of Cascade Delight but could I have pinched out the tips of the laterals in spring to encourage fruiting nearer the stem?
Thanks

I would like to know the answer to this too, mine have done the same but at least I have fruit this year. Last year they didn't have any at all.
