Walnut Tree

This beautiful young walnut tree was about to explode with this years leaves when we had a very hard frost (May)...consequently very few leaves actually opened out. This is how it looks now. Can anyone advise ...will it recover next year? thanks

    I wouldn’t expect a hard frost to kill a tree of that size. It probably just needs time to recover especially as we have also had the very dry weather and temperatures all over the place since

    We have never experienced any frost damage to our tree, even when it was a young sapling.  I always thought they were fully hardy.  Is it in the ground, or in pot?  Are the roots competing with other nearby plants?

    Young growth does get damaged by frost, I get it here. My young (in walnut terms) tree, about 7-8yrs old, does recover and leaf out again so as Butterfly says, hopefully yours will too. Another, very ancient one I have, which has been hit by consecutive frosts as it’s more exposed, is sadly dying. I suspect it is just it’s time to go...

    I give the young un a really good soak, right down to the roots, plus a fresh mulch of compost, after danger of frost is over and it does respond. You could try that.

    There is no sign of my tree recovering this year other than the few leaves seen on the photos...I have watered thoroughly and fed regularly (its in the ground with no nearby competing plants).. It was bought nearby so should be familiar with the local weather conditions. I can give it a good dose of fresh compost and hope it recovers next spring...

    I wouldn't feed it anymore but keep giving it water.  10 litres, twice a week and poured slowly so it seeps right down.  More often in hot spells.
