I need to get some seaweed feed don't I! I'll try a teabag for the acer seeing as I read somewhere that they actually do better in ericaceous soil. Thanks all 🙂
I was advised by the RHS *amazon that used tea will make little or no difference to the acidity. I drink loose tea (lots) and the leaves apparently make a good soil improver as they have been 'sterilised' but they have also had most of the tannin etc. leached out of them.

Good to know thank you. I think I should probably just repot it then, when I can get hold of the right compost.
I'm in the same situation (and a newbie) *amazon and, other than putting feed in the water in Summer, I use water straight from the tap. My garden babies seem happy with it. I wouldn't stress too much. My bay tree gets only tap water as it's in a rain shadow and it's turning into a monster (a healthy monster!)
I water everything with tap water (even sprinkler system is culinary water) - I live in a desert, there is no other way around it. (Yes, I am conservative, but 8 inches of rainfall a year doesn't get you far in a veg plot). My plants mostly do just fine.. all my issues are from under-watering mainly.
If you want, you could get the stuff to put into aquariums to dechlorinate the water.. it's cheap and goes a long way. They sell other stuff to build up the beneficial bacteria and micro flora as well, if you want to add that to your watering can.
Or buy a bag of well rotted manure, and use a small pile in each water can to make a 'tea'.. and leave the water out over night to allow any chlorine to evaporate. Beneficial bacteria and a very weak feed.
