what's this plant?

The plant is about 20cm tall, and spreads fairly rapidly through rhizomes.
A visitor recently reeled with horror and declared it to be the dreaded Knotweed.
I don't believe that myself unless it's a particularly tame version, but I can see why you might think that from the growth patter, leaf shape etc.

it's not knotweed. The name escapes me , but yeah, it's hideously invasive

Maybe Polygonum convolvulus... common name black bindweed.

doesn't look like P Convolvulus - maybe this picture will clarify. As mentioned about 20 cm high (maybe a bit more)

yup, that's the wee bugger I thought it was, but still can't remember the name sorry. I'd use Roundup on it. ( others will throw their hands up in horror at the very name being mentioned)

I don't need the exact details. Suffice it that I think from what's been said that it is indeed a Persicaria (hence IS actually a Knotweed though not of course the Japanese variety)
