Is this a clematis?

Hi all,

I discovered a climbing plant growing by my door early this spring and thought it was bindweed. I'm not one to pass up on free flowers so thought I'd train it around the door and keep it in check, but the flowers have just come out and its definitely not bindweed (despite the vigorous growth)! Any ideas on what it could be? I though a clematis maybe?

Thanks!

You won't get replies to your query here @linda.pidgeon, as the thread title is asking about clematis.
Better to start a thread with an appropriate title.

Most campanulas can have flowering stems cut back after they're finished though, and it often produces fresh foliage and the odd flower spike .  :)

Hello @K.e.dziubinska - There are now thousands of clematis available.   This website is run by academics - so not commercial - and allows you to search by colour, size, flowering time etc so have a go and see if you recognise it - http://clematisontheweb.org/new-clemlistsearch.cfm

@linda.pidgeon - never a good idea to piggy back on someone else's thread.  better to start your own with an appropriate title to get the attention of people who know the plant or problem you have.
