Giant bug!!!


Can someone tell me what this giant creature is please?!?!?

    It’s a Cockchafer ... love them ... such handsome creatures ... we get quite a few here

    I'm not so sure. It might be a summer chafer rather than a cockchafer. They have a slightly lighter brown to the head.
    If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

    Thought summer chafers have a more matt surface on the wing cases?  We get both around here and that’s usually my ID method ... but I may be wrong. 😊 
    And some cockchafers are ginormous too of course.

    Hard to tell when they're wet I suppose but a lovely bug either way. Unless you're one of those weirdos who like grass... :#

    We love them ...they rattle around in the tops of the ash trees around here and we watch the bats swooping to catch them
