Paint over Cuprinol fence paint

Hi...can you help with a query..what is the best way to paint over Cuprinol fence paint..it looks like it’s got a water base to it as tried to paint over today but looks very patchy in places..will it need a few coats to cover it completely..any help appreciated..Elaine

    Cuprinol is water based so all you need to do is sand it to remove any flaky bits and give a key to whatever is going to cover it.  If the new stuff is oil based I'd suggest a primer coat too.
