Cuckoo

I'm hearing the unmistakable sound of a cuckoo very close by in the trees to our right.

It's rather late in the year isn't it? I thought they only called like that in May for breeding. Never heard this before so I suppose its having another go for some reason.

Anyone here that knows more about this?

    As children we chanted...

    “The Cuckoo comes in April,
It sings its song in May,
In the middle of June it changes its tune
    In July it flies away’.

Maybe yours thinks it’s still the middle of June and not the end 😃
