Beetroot leaves turning yellow

Hi everyone,

A couple of you might remember me as the total novice who posted a few weeks ago for some guidance on the veg I've been trying to grow, or at least continue to grow on my late Father's behalf, so for those who aren't aware please forgive my ignorance and amateur questions lol.

So among the veg, there are Beetroot. Now they've been growing pretty well and looking very healthy until this last week, where a couple of the leaves have turned yellow. One or two others have turned a purple colour too.

I've uploaded some images below... It's probably straight forward to diagnose, but obviously I've not really got much of a clue, but what is it that's causing this? Insects? Not enough water? Too much water? Is this going to affect the Beetroot itself and should I remove the affected leaves?

Thanks in advance!

Sometimes plants just shed lower leaves; they turn yellow like that shrivel up and fall off. I would remove leaves that look fully yellow like that.

As for if its been under/over watered, generally, both have the same end visual problem (which makes accurate diagnoses hard)! But expect to see *all* or almost all of the leaves wilt and turn yellow and shrivel-y in fast succession if its to do with water.

Pests, generally always leave other signs of their existance. I'm dealing with spider mites and mealy bug with my indoor plants :(:(

I knew I had spider mites when the plant generally lost a little vigour over a day, and then shining my phone light on the leaves I noticed some motling... but I still couldn't see the spider mites. I can usually see them - good vision but others may not. Then the next day I finally saw 1 or 2 specks of the beastly things.

So regarding your beets, check for holes in leaves, an uneven distribution of the natural leaf colour etc, sometimes you cant see the pest until a couple of days later.
