Laburnum battandieri issue

Hi

I'm new to this forum and am hoping someone could help or offer any advice on my recently acquired Laburnum battandieri "pineapple broom". It was all on its own in the nursery and marked up at £23, because it looked like it had an issue I got it for £15 and thought it was worth a punt.
I have cut the top off as it dead (see second picture) and one side of the grafted trunk looks dead with one side looking healthy and feeding into what looks like a healthy flowering shrub.
My question is, will it die? Is it rotting? And also any tips on what best to do to save it if so?
Thanks in advance

Phil

    yup, they did.
Time will tell if it's a gonner or not. It'd help if you removed the flower as these use a lot of the plant's energy
