Broccoli woes.

Not been the most successful year with the purple sprouting or the calabrese. The purple sprouting I sowed direct either failed to germinate or the birds had what little did come up. A friend gave me a batch of fairly well grown purple sprouting plants in pots so they’ve been planted and seem to be doing ok.
The calabrese had a slightly better germination rate although patchy, but when I thinned it and transplanted the thinnings I had three complete rows of it. Now, with the dry weather they’ve all just bolted. Sigh...
I have some Brussels sprouts plants in pots looking for a growing space so the calabrese is going to come out and I’ll put the Brussels in there instead.

Sorry to hear of your unfortunate broccoli year so far. Here's to hoping the Brussel sprouts will be a sure thing!

I have had the same bolting problems with calabrese as last year, the only difference this year i have watered a lot more thinking that the previous year the plants were too dry but to no avail so am stopping growing early variety, and watching autumn variety carefully.
