Mystery plant?

Can anybody tell me what this plant is?  I thought it was 2 separate plants, but when I dug it up (to make way for a veg patch) I assumed I'd be able to put 2 small plants in our planters, at the front of the house, but turns out it's just one, rather wide, plant.

    Came across your other post regarding uploading photos. It's the icon that looks like a mountain, 10th in from the left.

    It's a variegated weigela, maybe Weigela florida 'Variegata':

    A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.

    The more I look at it, the more I think it's a tree of some sort, that has somehow grown sideways, along the ground?  Very odd.  Perhaps I should post a better photo.  I'll take another one, to give you an idea of how it's grown in 2 different directions, along the ground?!?!  Were you looking at the second photo, or both?

    Your first photo is as Bob says.
    Variegated plants often throw out plain green stems and that might account for your second photo.
    The photos are a bit too close to get the overall look of the plant though

    Second photo looks like an Azalea shrub. Agree with BobTheGardener. Sometimes Weigela shrubs can grow all winding and floppy because they have not been pruned back.
