Strange marks on figs

Hello all,
Anybody know what these marks might be? I've noticed quite a few of the figs (unripened at the moment) on one of my fig trees have lots of black/brown marks on them.  I've googled and can't see anything other than fig rust which doesn't really look the same. Any fig experts out there?
Thanks in advance.

I'm not a fig expert, sorry, but l'm wondering if they've been nibbled by something at some stage ?

Hmmm that is possible. Wee have squirrels in the garden. Strange it's only on one of the three trees that are very close to one another! Thanks!

Can you cut one open and see what it’s like on the inside? Sometimes they can rot from the inside if a fig wasp dies inside when doing it’s pollinating job. Does look like some sort of external damage or a canker/fungus of some sort though. Sorry, that kind of covers a lot of bases and is really not very helpful!!
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.

Thank you! I'll cut one open and post a photo on here. Very strange as we didn't have this last year!
