If you have any photos of your site etc @chrismorgan72, we can offer some suggestions to help, if you're keen on having an Acer.
You can always keep it potted and then you can move it accordingly  :)

Euonymus alatus and Cercis canadensis 'Forest Pansy' might fare better straight from the jump. E. alatus is just as beautiful as an Acer IMO, perhaps even more so.

That said, there are a lot of mature Acers in rather sunny hot front gardens near me and they seem to be OK.

    E. alatus is lovely indeed @WillDB, and not grown as often as other shrubs, unfortunately. The autumn colour is stunning on them.

An acer in isolation in full sun will struggle, but it's possible to get round it successfully  :)

I have an acer palmatum dissecctum in my front garden I planted about 30yrs ago.
The tree faces south, but the house casts a shadow on some of it between around Sept-March.

That's spectacular @Pete.8 - makes me very envious.

I have a red one in a full sun spot and also windy and exposed. Not planted by me so I don't know the variety, it could be Bloodgood or something very similar. It does surprisingly well. There can be other factors in play, we acidic soil, a lot of rain, not that much strong sun and milder (than UK average) climate. Windburn can be a problem if there are gales in April, luckily not this year.

That's exactly the point @edhelka . The climate is the biggest factor.
It's why they do so well up here too, and they don't mind freezing conditions or snow/ice/frost/wind as long as it can be mitigated with other planting or walls/buildings etc nearby.  :)
