ID on a pretty flower - self seeded

Hello GW people!
Bloomin' hot out there today!
Have seen this little feathering foliaged seedling appear in front of my poppies and another in front of my gladioli. I had originally thought it would be a Nigella 'Love in mist.' However now I see that all the buds are forming alternately around one single spike. I have googled Nigella a lot and I don't see this kind of flower formation. Whatever it is it's really quite pretty, but I wonder if anyone can tell me its name? Thank you all!

    I second larkspur.
  • Thanks both, that never crossed my mind because I think of them as quite a stately plant that has to be carefully introduced. However it most certainly is a wild looking larkspur so kudos to @Perki @Robmarston! Glad they arrived by chance :)

If they just landed, you’re very lucky. I love larkspur and would happily have them self seed everywhere.
  • Yes indeed I fell very lucky - as they are adorable! Having glass of wine to celebrate in fact! I have raked and dug over the soil (new garden) this year ready for poppies and sunflowers so perhaps I disturbed something that was lurking there already. Must be beginners luck...

When I was a kid there was a piece of waste ground opposite that had been a bowls club. One end was the embankment up the side of a railway bridge and every year that was covered with larkspur of every shade, absolutely beautiful, and I used to sneak in so that I could pick some. Plant mad even then!

They dry well and are often used as confetti
