Possible horsetail contamination?! Help!

In a bit of a panic..

A friend of mine gave me a shot of his fancy push-mower last weekend to see if I liked it. I do. It's wonderful, but that's not the point.

the point is that, when I dropped it off today, I saw that there are horsetails in his lawn. Not many, but some.

is my lawn at risk of contamination?! I can't believe it!

Well that would worry me to be honest, but is there any chance you misidentified horsetail? Could it have been achillea/yarrow? common lawn weed.

    Definitely horsetail, sadly...

You should be ok unless his mower pulled up some root. It is rarely troublesome in grass as regular mowing keeps it in check. It's seed heads looks a bit like dandelion ones but i doubt in a lawn it grows long enough to produce them.

GREAT. I doubt he's managed to pull up some root. At worst some segments and spores, but even then, it was a few days since he'd used the mower..

    Thanks!
