Philadelphus hasn’t flowered since I bought it over 5 years ago

Bought 2 varieties over 5 years ago, a coranarius I think is one of them. Have taken cuttings which are all over the garden. Lovely green foliage and not a single flower in all of this time. I have tried various things like leaving them uncut for a year or two, cutting back heavily in fact all sorts of various suggestions from the internet. Any suggestions apart from digging them out?

Sounds like you may need to just leave them alone now and avoid pruning. Pruning at the wrong time or when the shrub is too young, you will set them back. Allow at least 2 years for them to grow and see what happens. It may just need to build up.

Pruning at wrong time is usually the cause but you have tried that but they do need pruning every year at this time so any new growth will be the flowering stems for next year.
They do need full sun and perhaps a regular dose of potash would help but looking at some old posts on here it seems a few have the same problem with no solution.

I don't prune mine every year and they are covered in flowers. If you do feel you have to prune or reshape it is best done after flowering. I agree with Borderline, they just need a rest!

I cut some of mine back last year because they were in the way. The bits I didn't need to touch are in flower, the rest are just green. The ought to flower on last year's new growth, like forsythia.
