Broken Swiss Cheese Plant Leaf - Help!

Hi, I've had my swiss cheese plant for around three weeks and it's been doing really well. However, this morning I accidentally caught it and knocked off a delicate new leaf, leaving just a damaged stem behind!  :'(

The stem is already starting to bruise at the top - what's the best thing to do? Should I just leave the stem alone or prune it at the base? If I were to prune it, where's the best place to cut? I was thinking of pruning it at the base, like I've marked in the image below.

I'm reluctant to cut it as I don't want to cause any more damage to the plant!

Any advice appreciated - thanks :)

  • Yes cut it there, there's no point leaving the ugly stem. It will eventually dry out and then you can remove it from the healthy stem completely.

Yes I agree with @amancalledgeorge ... you can regard it as ‘pruning’ ... it’ll encourage the growth of sideshoots which will be good as Monsteras often grow tall and leggy without bushing out enough. 😊

  • Thanks @amancalledgeorge and @Dovefromabove, I'll try cutting it 😊 such a shame as it was a lovely big leaf that I knocked off, but as you say hopefully it will encourage it to grow more!
